Janice Lynn "Crazy In Love"-Jazz CD “A - 5,6,7,8”...Cra-zy in Love! Do the arts enhance a mathematical mind or does a mathematical mind enhance the arts? Sounds ’crazy?’ Maybe not so crazy… Janice Lynn is an accomplished singer/dancer/actress/poet and a high school teacher with a Doctorate in math pedagogy. Among the rich blend of original arrangements of old standard tunes, exists a mathematical formula of various styles and vocal textures. As an ardent actress, Janice Lynn offers a rainbow of vocal color to compliment the genres of lyric and character. But aside from those distinctions is ‘a set’ that is not ‘mutually exclusive’— where she challenges her listeners to perceive the ‘intersections’ of jazz and country, jazz and Broadway, jazz and torch, jazz and pop, and jazz and rock ‘n roll. This standard repertoire of stage and screen transcends into a classic era of fame and fortune for the legendary recording artists of the time. Janice takes a stroll along a filmstrip sidewalk of classy musical compositions spanning six decades of jazzy love songs. ’Complimentary’ to these heartfelt ‘translations,’ Janice is crazy -in- love with her talented band of musicians who take their instrumental solos into ‘multi-dimensional unknowns’ to establish a unique blend of voice and musical technique. Janice Lynn’s musical theater credits extend to most major cities along the coast from NY to LA. She has also appeared at the Papermill Playhouse, Six Flags Great Adventure, off–Broadway showcases in NYC, as well as NJ community, college campus, and dinner theaters. Among over four dozen musical credits, are starring roles such as Fastrada in the National Touring Company of “Pippin,” Reno Sweeney in “Anything Goes,” Aldonsa in “Man of La Mancha,” Anita in “West Side Story,” Sugar in “Sugar,” Eliza Doolittle in “My Fair Lady,” and Chita in “Jerry's Girls,” and Hannah in “Spitfire Grill,” to mention a few. Aside from her musical contributions Janice Lynn has earned distinction in multiple casts for such portrayals as Ann Sullivan in “Miracle Worker” and Bella in “Lost in Yonkers.” Some of her film credits include A Fire in the Dark, Other People's Money, and Carlito's Way. She holds a Doctoral degree in math pedagogy as well as Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in speech and theater, and administration and supervision (respectively) from Montclair State University. Among her teaching awards of recognition, Dr. Shuhan was nominated for the Distinguished Secondary School Teaching Award, The Good Neighbor Award-State Farm Insurance, the Governor’s Teacher Recognition Award, International Teacher of the Year, the recipient of the Stevens’ Institute of Technology Stevens’ Leadership Award for Excellence in Teaching (1990)– selection of the 'top ten math high school teachers in NJ' Tandy Technology Scholar-Outstanding Teacher Award (1992)-a national high school math and science teacher competition. Dr. Shuhan was selected as one of the top 8 high school math teachers in the nation by the Chancellor of Texas Christian University, the Chairman of the Board and CEO of Tandy Corporation. She was later acknowledged in a nationally televised press conference from Washington, DC. Dr. Shuhan was Essex County’s Teacher of the Year (1999-2000), a Princeton Distinguished Secondary Teacher Finalist (2002-2003), and the recipient of the Montclair State University Alumni Award of Recognition (2002-2003). Janice-Lynn has been inducted into Phi Delta Kappa, Strathmore’s Who’s Who, Who’s Who in Women, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who Amongst America’s Teachers, and Who’s Who in the World -Millennium edition. Janice-Lynn published a dissertation on An Interdisciplinary Approach: The Influence of Multiple-Intelligence Inspired Tasks on a Secondary Geometry Class (2006) upon completion of her doctoral studies. Prior to this venture, Janice-Lynn co-authored in-house math texts, supplements, and curriculum guides entitled, Math Essentials (1989), Skills and Suggested Strategies of Teaching Math Essentials (1989), and wrote, edited and served as video instructor of the first HSPT Prep Video-11th Grade (1991). Among some of her published poetry are selections found in books such as; Theatre of The Mind (2003), Eternal Songs (2000), Between Darkness and Light (2000), Secret Hiding Places (2000), and The Peace to Come (2000) by Noble House Publishers. Watermark Press published her book of some 30 love poems and prose entitled, Selections of the Heart and Soul (2000).
